The Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building 2 (ISTB2) is a 66,000-square-foot facility providing researchers with wet labs, high bay spaces, offices and conference rooms. ISTB2 supports research in advanced materials, transportation planning, geotechnical engineering, fluid dynamics and sustainable materials.
Housed in ISTB2, the National Center of Excellence on SMART (Sustainable Materials and Renewable Technologies) Innovations for Urban Climate and Energy is a premier laboratory developing solutions for a continually urbanizing planet, including cool pavement and roofing technologies to moderate growing temperatures in arid and dense urban areas.
ISTB2 earned a Silver rating through the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™.
This building earned this rating by minimizing its urban heat island effect, reducing its water use by 30 percent, optimizing energy performance, diverting 75 percent of its construction waste from the landfill, using recycled and regionally available building materials and improving indoor environmental quality.
